Due to the extensive ban on online gambling in Germany, players could be entitled to claims for reimbursement against the operators who are not allowed to offer the gambling on the internet. Online gambling was generally prohibited by law in Germany until 30 June 2021. With very few exceptions, most online casinos thus operated their service in Germany in a prohibited manner. As a result, players have a claim to the recovery of their paid bets. Several courts of first instance and appeal have already affirmed the operators' obligation to refund the players.
