On 24.4.2024, the Directive on the definition of criminal offences and sanctions for breaches of EU restrictive measures was adopted. Contrary to what was originally planned, lawyers will no longer be obliged to report offences unless they have positive knowledge of their clients' intention to circumvent sanctions or provide them with legal advice for the purpose of violating sanctions. According to the EU Parliament's original draft, a lawyer would have had to report the matter as soon as there was a suspected case.
