Mandatory PEC for Company Directors: What’s New in 2025

PEC (Certified Email) is an Italian system that gives emails the same legal validity as registered mail with return receipt. It ensures secure, traceable, and legally binding communication between businesses and public authorities. PEC is a key tool for digitalizing official exchanges in Italy.

Starting January 1, 2025, Italian law requires company directors to register a personal certified email address (PEC) with the Business Register. This address must be different from the company’s PEC. The obligation applies to the sole director, the CEO, or, if absent, the chairman of the board. Existing companies must comply by December 31, 2025, while new appointments must provide the PEC at the time of registration. Failure to comply may result in fines up to €2,064. The goal is to ensure transparency and secure communication between businesses and public authorities.
