The democratic parliamentarians in the Bundestag see little common ground with the far-right AfD party and must defend themselves against all kinds of applications from the AfD faction, mostly with success. In its ruling of September 18, 2024 - 2 BvE 1/20, the Federal Constitutional Court clarified that the AfD parliamentary group has no right to elect a committee chair. However, the AfD was successful before the Berlin Regional Court II (11-03.2025, 85 O 64/24); it sued for admission to the FC Bundestag, the only soccer club in the Bundestag, in which active and former members of all parties play soccer and won.
