As already provided for in Law 157/2019, a cash limit of 999 euros will apply in Italy from 1 January 2022. All cash flows above this amount must be traceable, i.e. usually executed by bank transfers. It will still be possible to make a cash withdrawal over 1,500 euros; however, a shop or service provider will no longer be allowed to accept a cash payment over 999.00 euros; they risk a fine of up to 15,000.00 euros. For "depositors", the catalogue of fines starts at 2,000.00 euros.
